Using Business Protocols
Technology is already available
Business protocol required
EDIFACT/X12 is too complex for most
VCI is proprietary & not accepted
OAGIS is well supported & simple
OAG includes SAP, Oracle, SSA etc
BOMA uses business object documents
Notes:
Understanding of terminology requires a shared vocabulary, or common ontology, to describe the concepts, relationships and jargon of various domains. Examples of message formats include EDIFACT and ANSI X12 for EDI, Knowledge Query and Manipulation Language (KQML) for knowledge sharing, and OAGIS messages for interaction of business applications. Before a unit can communicate, it must be able to locate the units(s) with which it wants to communicate, and decide the appropriate kind of communication. When received, a directive message incurs an obligation on the unit, which instantiates an appropriate process to fulfill the obligation when due.
