Notes:
The enterprise is modeled along two dimensions. Purpose, process and entity are the three fundamental types of business object in the model. Each is in turn modeled from three aspects: act, plan and rule. The act objects are concerned with current state and transactions that change that state, and identify involved entities by their actor and artifact roles. An actor is responsible for an action that changes the states of one or more artifacts. The plan objects are concerned with the scheduling of objectives, and instantiating activities to achieve them.
The rule objects define the rights and obligations of parties, and the policies to be applied in all situations. A command organization is based on power so does not require contracts to conduct its affairs. A request for work to be done is scheduled and executed directly (red arrows). Work within and between collaborating organizations which do not have a power relationship is achieved by negotiating contracts that define their conduct under all possible situations (blue arrows). An obligation is incurred on the organization by a request or directive received in terms of a contract, which identifies the policy to be applied and instantiates the appropriate activity (green arrows). The activity is executed in the same way as one instantiated by a command.
